When you're pulling down the Christmas lights this year, take a few minutes to stand back and see how others view your home from the street.
If you are unimpressed with the front entrance to your house, chances are your visitors will be too. So it could be time to make some changes.
Walk outside and take a good look at what's right near your front door. Does the space feel inviting, or do visitors have to duck and weave under branches and between the bushes? Even worse, do you see weary pot plants and spider webs under the eaves?
The solution may be as simple as sweeping away the cobwebs and cutting back the excess foliage so that the path is clear and defined. Try planting some fragrant herbs such as lavender around the entrance, as they will give off a pleasant aroma in the evening or when visitors brush past them.
Re-pot those weary plants - or throw them in the back garden and buy some new ones. Keep to a theme of simplicity and class - the visual impact will be greater if the pots are similar and the plants luxurious. A couple of big fat tubs are even more impressive and a lot less work.
Last of all, invest in some interesting lighting that not only lights up the path but shows off your garden and makes your house look welcoming.
